Our Wine Estate

Our estate is located just at the border of two magnificent wine-growing regions: Beaujolais and Burgundy. This geographical situation gives us the possibility to grow vines on different PDO’s from the two regions with rich and various soils

A Family Story...

Since 1983, the Martin family writes the history of Domaine de la Creuze Noire vintage after vintage.

Born into a family whose wine making origins go back to 5 generations , Dominique Martin began his own path with the exploitation of 5 hectares of vines in Leynes.

Quickly, he takes over the family vineyards and Christine joins the adventure in 1990. Soon after, a vathouse is build and the estate will take the name of “Domaine de la Creuze Noire” in reference to the locality “La Creuze Noire” in Leynes where are situated the estate, the tasting cellar and the winery as well as Dominique’s first vineyards from which is made our Beaujolais-Villages Leynes.

Loïc Martin starts is wine making career in 2009 and joins the family estate in 2013 in order to preserve the heritage of the Martin family through the years and generations.

At the moment, the Martin family looks after more than 30 hectares of vines between the Mâconnais and Beaujolais regions.

Our Values

Rigor and precision

At Domaine de la Creuze Noire, quality begins in the vines. Respecting the soils is as important as important as respecting the grapes. Therefore we execute each step of the viticulture cycle with great care.  This includes pruning, soils maintenance, green harvest and grape picking among others. Each year is different from one another. Nature will always have its word to say when it decides it. It is the winemaker’s task to adapt and cope with it. The result is a subtle mix where human know how is the most important.

Respect of the environment

Since nature is the winemaker’s first tool, he must respect it and make sure that the fragile balance of the vineyard is protected. Between tradition and modernity, our estate gives particular attention to the respect of the soils and biodiversity. Since 2018, the entirety of our wine-growing estate has received the High Environmental Value Level 3 Certification.

Two grape varieties for various types of soils

All the wines from Domaine de la Creuze Noire are made from mono-varietal vineyards. Chardonnay is used for the white wines and Gamay Noir for the red wines. These two grape varieties are the guiding threads of all our wines.

Chardonnay

Grown in many countries around the world, the Chardonnay better express itself in Burgundy. This grape couldn’t dream better than the clay-limestone soils of the Mâconnais area in order to unveil all of its aromatic potential.

Gamay Noir

Gamay Noir is the iconic grape variety of Beaujolais. It thrives particularly well on granitic soils where it can draw all of its character. The wines that are then obtained have great subtlety and bursting red fruits aromas.
